چکیده

HPEAK: A COOL TOOL FOR ANALYZING HEAT PUMPS Heat pumps are getting smarter. Some of the newest models not only heat and cool your home but provide hot water as well. But how do these advanced systems affect energy consumption and are they cost effective? To get some answers, NIST researchers developed a computer program to evaluate the performance and economics of conventional and advanced heat pump and water heating systems. Called HPEAK (Heat Pump/ Economic Analysis of Kilowatt-hours), the program can simulate the daily, hour-by-hour operation of a heat pump and can predict the monthly and annual energy consumption as well as peak demand times. It also can be used to analyze the cost effectiveness of operating a particular heat pump system and can compare the energy consumption and costs of conventional and advanced heat pump systems. Designed to run on a personal computer, HPEAK can be used by electric utilities, heat pump manufacturers, and building researchers. The software and related documentation is available from the Electric Power Research Institute in Palo Alto, CA, 214/655-8883.

Method of Evaluation of Efficiency Improvement Potential for District Heating Systems with Focus on Variable Speed Centrifugal Pumps

The goal of this research is the derivation of method for evaluation of efficiency improvement potential for district heating systems with focus on variable speed centrifugal pump. The effectiveness of the usage of the proportional pressure control is compared with the constant pressure control. This is why, energy calculation analyses have been realized for variable speed centrifugal pumps, an...

Economic optimization and comparative study of solar heat pumps

In this paper, an economic study of solar heat pumps and an investigation of differences between solar heat pumps and conventional heat pumps—based on their performances and energy consumption—are conducted for a residential apartment located in Austin, Texas, USA. Heating in the apartment is provided via a solar heat pump during the cold months of a year. Solar collectors are used to meet the ...

Current status of ground source heat pumps in Europe

Geothermal Heat Pumps, or Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP), are systems combining a heat pump with a ground heat exchanger (closed loop systems), or fed by ground water from a well (open loop systems). They use the earth as a heat source when operating in heating mode, with a fluid (usually water or a water-antifreeze-mixture) as the media transferring the heat from the earth to the evaporator o...

Short-Time modelling of geothermal systems

Ground-Coupled Heat Pumps (GCHP) are among the most efficient systems to heat and cool buildings. The high initial cost of these systems has hindered their growth in particular for residential applications. Better design methods are welcome to try to optimize the size and then the initial cost of these systems. In the field of ground heat exchanger design, the short-time behavior, which was bef...
